16 Hour ROGAINE -Free Training Event - Donations will be accepted for Boy Scout Troop 148 Camp Fund

In 2009 the Rock, Roll and Rattlesnake Challenge will be hosted by L & N South Paint Creek Cattle Ranch, Lake Stamford and Haskell.  L & N is our family owned ranch in Haskell County.  The ranch is typical of rough breaks and mesquite rangelands in the Rolling Limestone Prairie, broken draws lined with bumelia, hackberry, aromatic sumac, elbowbush, greenbriar and lotebush, and features mature turkey roost timber along Paint Creek.  White-tailed deer, Rio Grande Wild turkeys, bobwhite quail, mourning doves, furbearers, songbirds, and yes...feral hogs abound.   The last week in April is time of year wildflowers explode into an aromatic and colorful countryside creating a delight for the eyes and nose both.  Beautiful, rough, rugged and extreme are a few words to describe this area of Texas.  If you think Texas is flat, I dare ya to come race with us!

Pre-race packet with specific instructions will be sent to registered teams.

Just call or email at Leiza@rattlesnakeracing.com to register 940.256.0769

Rogaine is an orienteering term used for an orienteering event with many control points and a set time limit to find as many as you can.  Each control has a difficulty point scale.

You bring your running shoes, compass, mountain bike, etc.....   We will provide map, boat, pfd and paddle if needed.  If you have your own boat and want to bring it, you may.  We give you CP UTM Coordinates.  You have 16 hours to find as many CP's as you can using your legs, mt. bike or boat.  You decide the order and which CP's to attempt to find.  There will be at least 20 Check-points. There will be rules such as you must stay on trail with your bike and you must stay within the set boundaries. Actually there will be tons of check points.  You will only be allowed to hunt CP's on my mom's ranch and on Lake Stamford this year.  If you have maps from years past, please bring them.  I will make color copies of the ranch map, but lake maps are difficult to copy.  I can also give you the map names to purchase from Mytopo.com.

We will not start racing in town as we have in previous years.  The race this year is somewhat different.  Since it is a training event no tracking devices will be used and the honor system will be used for scoring.   You will need whatever equipment you want to bring.  I would suggest a mt. bike, helmet and shoes for biking, trekking, and a pfd.  We will set six kayaks at The Anchor on Lake Stamford with paddles.  I'll even throw in a few of the orange collar pfd's.

We will meet in town Friday evening at 6pm at my house at 305 N. Ave. C.  Between 5pm and 7pm I will have baked spuds or baked sweet potatoes with the fixins for everyone.  Around 7:30pm we will head to the one TA location.  We are planning on the TA being at the ranch gate, so you will be driving down a few of the ranch roads.  These road have been grated and are in pretty good shape, but not sure you want to bring the giant 5th wheel trailer.  If you do want to bring a trailer, hook-ups are available on a first come, first serve basis at the Anchor on Lake Stamford.  If you do not want to come in on Friday night the race start will be 5am Saturday morning at the ranch gate.  From HWY 380 take FM 618 South for about 5 miles to FM 2082.  Go East on FM 2082 for about 5 miles until the road turns into dirt County Road Loop Road.  Go East on Loop Road for 1 mile to L&N South Paint Creek Ranch.  TA will be at gate and start of race will be at gate unless it rains Friday.

However, please keep in mind this race usually brings great rains, so if the roads are wet the TA will be at Lake Stamford.  The ranch TA will be primitive.  The lake does have bathrooms, showers and a small store open during the day.  We won't know until Friday evening for sure where the TA will be.  Ranch will be more fun, but lake is a great back up.

Everyone will need to bring their own food for Saturday morning breakfast and lunch.  We will then have a potluck meal on Saturday night at 8pm at the one TA (wherever that may be).  Rattlesnake Racing will provide hamburger steaks and sirloin steaks for the potluck plus any left over potatoes.  Please bring anything else you might want to eat and share.  We will also supply beverages and soft drinks for the meal.

Children are welcome.  River and Zhenia will be around to entertain and take the others on hikes and to the creek.  Bring pfd's for any kids you bring.  We look forward to seeing everyone.  Please give me a call at 940.256.0769 if you have any questions or will be coming in later Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Happy Racing,

Leiza
