Frequently asked questions: Q: Do I have to stay for the Land Nav? A: No, if you're only interested in the kayak trip, then that is all you do. You get to head for home and sleep in air-conditioned comfort while the rest of us stumble around in the woods in the dark! Q: What skill level is required for kayaking? A: Beginner and up. We'll start with some basic paddling and safety instruction before we leave the shallow marina and enter the lake. We use large, stable, sit-on-top tandem (2-person) and triple (3-person) kayaks. These are great boats for beginners since they are the easiest to get in and out of yet still track and paddle well. The distance is fairly long but we'll take plenty of rests and we are planning a slow and relaxed pace. Please call or email us if you have any concerns. Q: What about small children and pets? A: Children and pets are more than welcome, but they do require some extra planning. If you are bringing the family please contact us before the trip so we can make sure everything is in place, e.g. room in kayaks, food-and-water, children's PFDs, etc. We believe these trips should be an opportunity for the entire family to participate and have fun together. We just need to take the extra time to make sure all the safety and logistics angles are covered. Our six-year-old son will likely be along for this trip and would love to have some other kids to play with! Q: What is Hell's Gate? A: Hell's Gate is a rock formation of two 100 foot cliffs, with one side of the gate an island in the lake. It is a popular spot in PK Lake for swimming and play. Hiking is allowed on the island. In addition, on the way to Hell's Gate we'll be gawking at some of the nicest lake-front homes in Texas. Q: What is BRWA? A: Brazos River Water Authority. This is the Texas State agency responsible for the lake and public access and camping on the lake. Q; What if I have other questions? A: Call us at 940-256-0769 or email us at leiza@westex.net anytime! Please email Leiza at leiza@westex.net to be placed on the email list for trip updates. We will limit the trip and clinic to 20 people. You may also call Leiza at 940.256.0769. Please send name of each participant and contact info for each participant.
